RESOLUTION:THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs of Ontario urges the Government of Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services to amend the General Welfare Act to permit single women on social assistance to receive OSAP loans while receiving social assistance for the purposes of furthering her education (skills upgrading at an accredited institution). Continued eligibility should be based on marks, attendance. etc. Such OSAP loans should be sufficient to cover tuition, books and travel costs.
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs of Ontario urges the Government of Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities to amend the existing OSAP requirements to allow women regardless of the financial status of their spouses to receive loans for the purposes of furthering their education. OSAP loans should be sufficient to cover tuition, books, travel costs and child care as required.
